Joint APPG Session on Active Travel and Road Safety

Following the Council of Members meeting, attendees were invited to join a joint session of the APPG for Transport Safety and the APPG for Cycling and Walking, held at the House of Commons. 

The session featured Lilian Greenwood MP, who spoke about current policy developments, including the Road Safety Strategy and pavement parking, and responded to pre-submitted questions. 

Discussions during the session highlighted the importance of evidence in shaping road safety policy, including the role of research, international comparisons, and understanding wider social and economic impacts. 

There was also discussion on encouraging more active travel, recognising the complexity of the challenge and the need for a range of approaches across policy, infrastructure and behaviour. 

The session forms part of the wider “Reaching Our Active Travel Potential” inquiry led by the APPG for Cycling and Walking, which will include a series of oral evidence sessions with invited stakeholders.
