In memory of Baroness Jenny Randerson

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Baroness Jenny Randerson, a pioneering Welsh Liberal Democrat politician, at the age of 76. Her exceptional career in public service leaves an enduring legacy in Welsh and UK politics. Baroness Randerson was a vice-chair of the Transport Safety APPG, and had dedicated her life to serving her community as a Cardiff councillor, Welsh Assembly Member, Minister for Culture, Sport, and the Welsh Language, and later as a life peer in the House of Lords. As the first female Liberal Democrat minister in the UK, she championed cultural and linguistic initiatives, including the introduction of a cultural strategy promoting the Welsh language and securing free entry to Wales’s national museums.

Her contributions extended beyond politics. Baroness Randerson served as Chancellor of Cardiff University and as a patron of numerous charities, touching the lives of countless individuals. Her influence as a mentor and leader was profound, and her efforts to inspire younger generations remain a testament to her commitment to public service. She will be remembered as a trailblazer, a mentor, and an unwavering advocate for progress and inclusion.
